The Printemps nordique festival, organized by Place des Arts in 2018, aimed to bring to light the incredible creative vitality of Nordic countries and to highlight the values of cooperation, humanism, and environmental awareness that motivate artists in these regions.
Principal created the campaign for the festival, developing an identity and design language that enabled the communication of various events, including theatre, contemporary opera, dance, the circus, music, digital art, visual arts, and literature.
To express the diversity of Nordic countries in the abstract, the design system drew inspiration from the region’s characteristic nature, light, and colour. Principal worked with Cécile Gariépy to create a set of illustrations that could be paired with the typography or with images from the shows. The typography gave structure to the entire proposition by implementing a rigorous, clear, and functional hierarchical system.
In addition to the festival campaign, Principal created the graphic design for the Frimas exhibition. Presented in the exhibition gallery at Place des Arts during the festival, the event proposed photographs documenting the view of the indigenous Arctic people, the Sami.
